Project: YES (Youth Enhancement Service)

Motto of YES: "Grow, Work & Build with Excellence"


YES is a job-readiness training programme for youth ages 16-25yrs with special focus on character building. The programme also enrolls High School Graduates confused about their next step and at risk of making wrong choices for their future.


The problems affecting the youth and young adults in Jamaica are:

  • Crime & Violence

  • Teenage Pregnancy

  • Prostitution

  • Prevalent Drug Trade

  • High Rate of School-Dropouts

  • High Unemployment Rate & Poverty

  • AIDS

  • A sense of hopelessness & frustration

  • Generally unprepared for the world of work

  • Unable to get a job, unable to keep a job


Courses from YES:

1. Practical Training
Job Preparation Skills, Courses focus on key skill areas, customer service training and computer. 12 weeks of classroom instruction, 4 weeks of work experience

2. Personal Development
Self-discipline, responsibility, integrity, deportment, attitude, sexuality, etc.

3. Work Experience
Real-world, training on-the-job, experience.

4. Continued Support
Our staff are available to provide re-training & career guidance and counseling at no cost, up to 6 months following graduation.

The course offering includes f. e.:

  • Communication und Telephone

  • Basic Computer in Word and Excel, Internet, E-Mail

  • Basic Business-English und Math

  • Basic typing (Letter Writing, bills, etc.), grammar, spelling

  • Combination of History, Geography, Social Studies/Civics & Environmental Studies

  • Money & Time Management

  • Grooming, Deportment, Etiquette

  • Interview & Resume Preparation

 

Joint certification with The National Council on Technical And Vocational Education and Training (NCTVET)- registered with the Ministry of Education.


Costs

Full training cost is J$25,000 per student. Each student pays J$7,500. J$17,500 per student covers the balance of the cost of the course, which we seek to raise through our Student Sponsorship Programme.

There are approximately 28 students per class/batch. Currently, we project to graduate about 84 students per year.

Donation of Furniture & Equipment:

  • Upgrading of 6 old computers, and accessories and labour costs to network 15 computers in the computer lab

  • 1 desk, 2 filing cabinets

  • 1 Photocopy machine (priority)

  • 21" TV

  • Overhead projector or multi-media projector
